PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin care preparation for external use having excellent moisturizing action and roughened skin ameliorating effect.

SOLUTION: This preparation having excellent moisturizing action and roughened skin ameliorating effect is produced by compounding a skin care preparation for external use with a component derived from a plant of the family Empetraceae. The plant of the family Empetraceae is e.g. a plant belonging to the genus Empetrum such as Empetrum nigrum Linn.var. japonicum K. Koch, Empetrum rubrum and Empetrum nigrum Linn, a plant of the genus Ceratiola such as Ceratiola ericoides.
