<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of detecting the timing for feeding paper sheets with high accuracy, providing a high-grade image even during implementation of borderless printing, and obtaining such recording position accuracy that satisfies a user. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a sheet size detecting means and a sheet reading means arranged in a passage region being a feed path of the sheets conveyed in such a manner that a plurality of read pixels line up in a direction perpendicular to the conveyance direction of the sheets. The apparatus is also equipped with a positional deviation detecting means for detecting the positional deviation of the conveyed sheets by repetitively reading a plurality of the read pixels of the sheet reading means and a control means for controlling the effective signal region in a detecting region of the sheet reading means on the basis of the positional deviation by the positional deviation detecting means by determining the detection region of the sheet reading means on the basis of the result of detection of the sheet size detecting means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
