<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is controlled so that a toner image formed while both-side printing is interrupted is appropriately removed according to the situation to prepare for the next both-side printing. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a both-side transferring means which has a first image carrier, a second image carrier and a third image carrier, performs transferring from the first image carrier to the second image carrier, then transfers a visual image transferred from the second image carrier to the third image carrier to one side of a recording medium, at the same time, transfers the visual image transferred from the first image carrier to the second image carrier to the other side to transfer the visual images to both sides of the recording medium. The image forming apparatus is further provided with a both-side transferring stopping means stopping the both-side transferring means and a visual image removing means removing the image which is visualized on the image carrier when the both-side transferring is stopped by the both-side transferring stopping means.
