<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging unit having a compression function providing a short compression processing time to a video signal so as to be capable of transmitting required video signals through a transmission path with a limited bandwidth. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging unit is provided with: an A/D conversion means 4 for converting a signal outputted from an image sensor 1 into a digital video signal for expressing one pixel by a first number of bits; a block division means 10 for dividing digital video signals for configuring one image pattern into blocks in units of blocks each having a plurality of adjacent pixels; a maximum value / minimum value detection means 11 for detecting a maximum value / a minimum value of the digital video signal by each block; a difference calculation means 12 for calculating a difference between the digital video signal and the minimum value by each pixel by each block; and a coding means 13 for dividing the dynamic range of the digital video signal by a second number of bits smaller than the first number of bits by each block, calculating a quantization step with a gradation corresponding to each step set, and coding the difference according to the quantization step. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
