PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor having excellent low-temperature characteristics. SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor, comprising an electrode member having pores formed by giving an electric activation treatment to a carbon material, and an electrolytic solution for capacitor, which contains electrolyte and dips the electrode member, is characterized by containing electrolyte ions whose diameter is relatively smaller than that of the pores in the electrode member, in the electrolytic solution for capacitor. Owing to the above characteristics, resistance against the movement of the electrolytic ions in the pores is mitigated when the capacitor is used at a low temperature. Accordingly, the capacitance of the capacitor is suppressed from being reduced, and thus the capacitor excells in low-temperature characteristics. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
