PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a system and method providing fault-tolerant digital processing by CPUs. SOLUTION: A method for compiling a program to be executed on a target microprocessor with a plurality of functional units of the same type includes opportunistically scheduling a redundant operation on one of the functional units that would otherwise be idle during a cycle.
