PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper currency processing device for fully suppressing an increase in the costs of the device itself and running cost, and for presenting information for tracing a person who has inserted a counterfeit bill, and when one is found. SOLUTION: An ATM 1 accommodates a separator medium 31 with paper currency management information written in cartridges 17-19 when a specified time is reached (s2, s4). The paper currency management information includes the time the separator medium 31 is accommodated in the cartridges 17-19, and identification information of the processor for specifying the processor itself. Accordingly, when a forged bill is found from paper currencies taken out of the cartridges 17-19, the person who has inserted it in the forged bill can be traced, by using the paper currency management information written on the separator medium 31.
