PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage of a sample container, a heat-sensitive plate, the beam of a balance and the like by the movement of fingers in a thermal analyzer having a structure for grasping the sample container using fingers. SOLUTION: This thermal analyzer has a beam 37 equipped with the heat-sensitive plate 39 on which the sample container 4 is placed and rotatable on a fulcrum 36, a deflection detector 42 for detecting the deflection of the bam 37, the fingers 32 capable of grasping the sample container 4, a finger driving device 26 for allowing the fingers 32 to perform the grasping operation of the sample container 4 and the operation for releasing the grasping of the sample container 4, an arm lift device 12 for forwardly moving the fingers 32 in a measuring part Pm toward the heat-sensitive plate 39 and rearwardly moving them in the opposite direction, a position sensor for detecting the reciprocation of the fingers 32 and a control circuit for stopping the advance of the fingers 32 due to the arm lift device 12 on the basis of the output signals of the deflection detector 42 and the position sensor.
