PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil pump in which suction resistance and noises are reduced further. SOLUTION: In the oil pump 10, an outside edge region 53 surrounded by ribs 51, 52, a filter 17A and an outside enclosure 30 is allowed to communicate with a suction port 31 through a communication path 53A. Thus, in the filter 17A, oil can be sucked not only from the part opposite to the suction port 31, but also from the part opposite to the outside edge region 53. Consequently, oil conduction area in the filter 17A is further spread out, and suction resistance is reduced. Further, a return port 62 from a relief valve 61, which is activated in the case of excessive suction by a rotor 40, is made open on the outside of the outside enclosure 30. Thus, in comparison with the conventional pump in which a return port of the relief valve is made open on the inside of the outside enclosure 30, a steep pressure difference is hard to produce between the return port 62 and the rotor 40, enabling suppression of occurrence of cavitation, and accordingly reduction of noises.
