An optical recoding medium tilt compensating apparatus having tilt compensating means for compensating, particularly, the tilt error in tilt servo control used for recording/reproduction of an optical recording medium. A tilt compensating method and an optical information processing apparatus using the method are also disclosed. The optical recording medium tilt compensating apparatus is characterized by comprising an objective lens for focusing the light beam emitted from a light source onto the recording surface of an optical recording medium, an objective lens tilt actuator for controlling the tilt of the objective lens, an objective lens tilt sensor for detecting the amount of tilt of the objective lens, an optical recording mecum tilt sensor for detecting the amount of tilt of the optical recording medium, control means for controlling the amount of tilt of the objective lens by driving the objective lens tilt actuator according to the amount of tilt outputted from the optical recording medium tilt sensor so that the aberration of the light spot focused onto the recording surface may be minimum, and gain varying means for varying the strength of the output signal from the objective lens tilt sensor or optical recording medium tilt sensor.
