PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source output adjustment method and a light source output adjusting device in an image scanner that suppresses power wastefully consumed by a light source for outputting light beams, lengthens the life of the light source, and can read an image under optimum conditions. SOLUTION: Laser beams L outputted from a laser diode 104 are emitted to a storage phosphor sheet IP via a scanning optical system 136 and the obtained stimulable phosphor light is read by upper and lower reading units 66 and 68. The read value (QL value) of the read radiation image information is supplied to a light source output adjustment section 146 and an LD output target value is obtained, by using an LD output target value table read from an LD output target value table storage section 148.
