PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device in which only a motion of a target object is highly accurately detected by correcting a distance to the object using a luminance signal level obtained from an output signal of an imaging device. SOLUTION: The image pickup device comprises: image pickup means 1-6 for generating a video signal of a video image including a moving object; range finding means 10-12 for generating a distance signal to the object; a luminance signal detecting means 58 for generating a luminance signal of the image from the video signal; a distance correcting means 59 for correcting the distance signal in accordance with the luminance signal; a distance detecting means 13 for detecting a change of a video image in the direction of an optical axis from the output of the distance correcting means 59; a video evaluation signal detecting means 7 for detecting a video evaluation signal indicating a moving extent of the object from the video signal; a motion detecting means 8 for detecting a change of the video evaluation signal; and a motion identifying means 9 for comparing the change of the video evaluation signal with a reference value for predetermined motion detection, comparing a change of the video image in the direction of an optical axis with a reference value for predetermined distance detection, and judging the presence/non-presence of the motion of the video image within the distance range in a target field of view.
