PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solid-state antibacterial agent releasing dialdehydes on dissolving into water, and the like. SOLUTION: A solid-state antibacterial composition contains the following (a) and (b) components and releases dialdehydes on dissolving it into water or a mixed solution of water with a lower alcohol. (a) a compound expressed by the formula: OHC-R-CHO (wherein, R is a single bond, a 1-4C alkylene group or phenylene group), (b) a polyvinylpyrrolidone. The solid state composition is obtained by dissolving or suspending each of the components into water or a mixed solvent of water with an alcohol and vacuum freeze-drying or spray-drying the solution.
