PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for exterminating a harmful insect to dried bonitoes, not influenced by weather, and the like, nor causing deterioration of a product, nor requiring a very large investment in equipment, and to provide an apparatus for exterminating the same. SOLUTION: The method comprises a process for charging a hermetically sealed container with the dried bonitoes, a process for filling the container with evaporated and vaporized ethanol, a process for fumigating the dried bonitoes with the filled ethanol for a prescribed time in the hermetically sealed container, and a process for removing the ethanol from the dried bonitoes. Therefore, the method is not influenced by the weather, and the like, nor causes the deterioration of the product, nor requires the very large investment in the equipment.
