The invention relates to a method and a device for processing data packets comprising real-time data packets. According to the invention, the data packets are first classified by a coprocessor unit (1) into at least one first type of data packet containing real-time data packets, and a second type of data packet. The first type of data packets is processed by means of a first data path (b) comprising another coprocessor unit (2), while the second type of data packets is processed by means of a second data path (c, d) comprising a central processing unit (3). In this way, real-time data packets are processed without using the central processing unit (3).
