<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reader device which can be used by a cable and radio and in which a charging-type battery in a scanner can be charged while the device is used by the cable. <P>SOLUTION: In the bar code reader device, a data communication function transferring data between the scanner and a communication unit is provided with a cable communication function and a radio communication function. The scanner has a switching function for changing over the cable communication function and the radio communication function. Since the charging-type battery is loaded, the scanner can be used as a cable communication type and a radio communication type. The charging-type battery is charged through a connection cable of the scanner and an external unit. When the connection cable is removed from the scanner and the scanner is loaded on a power unit, the scanner can be used in the cable communication type or the radio communication type constituted in such a way that the charging-type battery is charged through a charging means of the power unit, and the inner charging-type battery can be charged with sufficient operability while the scanner is used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
