PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder resin for a toner which does not impair sharp meltability, fixability or blocking resistance, has durability, is free of fusion bonding to a blade and exhibits a superior filming property. SOLUTION: The binder resin is a polyester resin comprising acid components including a dicarboxylic acid as a main component and diol components including an aromatic diol shown by formula (1). The molar ratio of the ethylene oxide adduct to the propylene oxide adduct of the aromatic diol contained in the polyester resin is≥4, and in a molecular weight distribution by gel permeation chromatography, a content (area ratio) of a region whose molecular weight is≤1,000 is≤10%.
