PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque adjusting mechanism for a lens unit capable of applying desired running torque to a zoom ring of a lens unit. SOLUTION: The torque adjusting mechanism 50 consists of a gear 54, a friction plate 54, a supporting frame 56, a shaft body 58, a torque adjusting knob 60, a spring 62, a spring 64, etc. When the torque adjusting knob 60 is rotationally moved in a direction where the knob is brought near to the supporting frame 56, the energizing force in the direction where the friction plate 54 is held by pressure between the gear 56 and the supporting frame 56 is applied from the spring 62 through the shaft body 58 to the gear 52 and the running torque of the zoom ring 16 increases gradually. When the torque adjusting knob 60 is rotationally moved in a direction where the knob is brought apart from the supporting frame 56, the running torque of the zoom ring 16 decreases gradually. When the energizing force of the spring 62 falls down to the prescribed force or below, the energizing force of the spring 64 overcomes the energizing force of the spring 62 and the gear 52 is forcibly parted from the friction plate 54.
