摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making assemblies (12, 14) made of an iron-based or a nickel-based superalloy a single structure by welding. SOLUTION: Assemblies (12, 14) are heated to form an oxide layer (24) on the surfaces of the assemblies (12, 14), optionally, as a solution heat treatment prior to welding, up to temperatures in the range of approximately 760°C-1,090°C at a speed suitable to minimize a geometrical strain in the atmosphere. Then, the oxide layer (24) with sufficient thickness is formed on the surfaces of the assemblies at temperatures in the range of about 760°C-1,090°C and, after that, the assemblies are cooled to ambient temperature at the speed sufficient to suppress precipitation of an undesirable metal phase. Then, the oxide layer is removed from at least faying surfaces (16, 18) of the assemblies but not removed from face surfaces (20, 22) of the assemblies. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
