PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve light transmission efficiency with a structure of a conventional discharge tube. SOLUTION: In a transparent electrode 2, a plurality of parts without having the electrode are formed at every predetermined interval H by opening (n) oblong holes 10 each having an area C×D. When it is assumed that D is 3 mm or less, and the area of each part without having the electrode is not more than 40% of a light emitting area, the transmission of visible light can be increased as a whole. Therefore, improvement of light transmission efficiency can be provided only by forming the parts without having the electrode in the transparent electrode even if the structure of a conventional discharge tube is not changed.
