PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance member for a display unit, e.g. a metallic partition or a metallic backplane especially, by realizing a high insulating property with as few pinholes and cracks serving as defects against insulating characteristic as possible, ever in such cases as an insulating layer thin enough to secure aperture ratio so as not to degrade brightness. SOLUTION: The member for a display has a metal substrate with an oxide layer formed thereon where the oxide layer contains P of 1 to 16 mass%, the remainder is an oxide having a silicon oxide as the main composition consisting of Si and O substantially, the oxide layer is 0.1 to 10μm in thickness, and the oxide layer can contain B of 15 mass% or less (not including 0 mass%). In a method for manufacturing the member for a display, the metal substrate with the oxide layer formed thereon is heat-treated at 400 to 750°C. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
