PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a power generation state even if a fuel cell stack is started below the freezing point.
SOLUTION: This method is used for starting, below the freezing point, the fuel cell stack 1 composed by stacking a plurality of film electrode structures each equipped with a solid polymer electrolyte membrane and an electrode, and a plurality of metallic separators each having a cross-sectionally waved structure, and using, as a cooling passage, a space interposed by at least part of the separators and a separator installed adjacently to the separator. A heat capacity of the cell stack 1 is set at a predetermined value based on a preset startup starting temperature and a characteristic of the film electrode structure so that the temperature of the film electrode structure is set above 0°C before the film electrode structure becomes incapable of generating power when the temperature of the cell stack 1 is raised by self-heating caused by the heat generation of the cell stack 1; and the output of the cell stack 1 is controlled so that the output current of the cell stack 1 is set above the minimum necessary current necessary for compensating a heat dissipation portion by using the cell stack 1 with the heat capacity set at the predetermined value.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
