PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard film-coated tool including a gear cutting tool and a cutting tool obtained by coating a base material of high speed tool steel or alloy tool steel with a hard film by an ion plating method or the like, in which edge chipping is prevented by suppressing the nitriding depth of the corner in the tip of the edge at the time of producing a new article or on repolishing and preventing deterioration in the toughness of the tip part. SOLUTION: At the time of producing a new article, a previously coated hard film in the partial face 38 of a cutting edge contributing to cutting as a repolishing face is removed by a physical method or the like including grinding, or, on repolishing, the hard film in the repolishing face 38 is removed by repolishing, and thereafter, the exposed part 38 of the base material is subjected to nitriding treatment in a gaseous nitrogen atmosphere to form a nitrided layer 37.
