PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing resin fine particles having a low ion content in which the resin fine particles having extremely little residual ion amount can be produced without using a surfactant or an emulsifying agent and to provide the resin fine particles having the low ion content. SOLUTION: The method for producing the resin fine particles having the low ion content comprises a step 1 for obtaining resin fine particles having an ionic functional group derived from an ionic polymerizable monomer on the surface and/or in the interior by polymerizing a polymerizable composition containing a nonionic polymerizable monomer, an ionic-polymerizable monomer and nonionic polymerization initiator in a state uniformly dispersed in a solvent in the absence of a amphipathic substance and an uncopolymerizable dispersion stabilizer and a step 2 for substituting an ionic functional group of the resin fine particles having the ionic functional group on the surface and/or in the interior with a chemically cleaving or nonionic functional group. In the method for producing the fine particles having the low ion content, the ionic-polymerizable monomer has a structure in which a part having a polymerizable unsaturated group is bonded to a part having an ionic functional group by a chemically cleaving group.
