The device comprises an integrated electric drive (1) with a rotor (3) and a magnetic element (2), moving venous blood from the lower vena cava through a twin cannula along the inner and outer membranes made of hollow fibers (5, 6). Oxygen is inserted into the system through an inlet (7) at the bottom also guided along the inner and outer membranes (5, 6). The direction of motion of the blood as well as of the oxygen is reversed. The surplus oxygen and the carbon dioxide are released through an outlet (8) while the enriched blood is guided through the twin cannula (5, 6) back into the system (9).
