<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyarylene copolymer capable of performing the reaction with a catalyst efficiently in using it as an electrode since sulfonic acid group is set to be introduced into side chains, its number of chains is regulated and it is introduced at random into the polymer, a method for producing the same, a solid polymeric electrolyte, a proton conductive film and an electrode for a battery containing the polyarylene. <P>SOLUTION: This polyarylene having the sulfonic acid group consists of at least 1 kind selected from a constituting unit expressed by the following general formula (1), a constituting unit expressed by the following general formula (2) and a constituting unit expressed by the following general formula (3), and having 1.0-4.0 mean number of chains of constituting units expressed by the general formula (1) each other.
