PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To align and merge image data extracted from both ends of a CCD that is a line sensor, without increasing costs required for components. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus 3 writes the first half of data streams for about 1/2 line from the top of a line and the latter half of data streams for about 1/2 line from the end of the line in a buffer L44 and a buffer R45 in parallel. Furthermore, data are read from the buffer L44 and the buffer R45 at an approximately double speed of writing. The buffer L44 is read in the same order as writing, and the buffer R45 is read in the reverse order of writing. Subsequently to the end of reading the buffer L44, the buffer R45 is read.
