PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide control system and method for performing communication between one or two or more controllers and an input/output device, in particular, to easily access data of a controller from a general-purpose input/output device. SOLUTION: A name/address conversion part 12 in the controller 1 converts a data name displayed by a character string of a language and the like and a corresponding data address in the controller 1 by using a name/address table 13 being a contrast data table which is prepared beforehand. Thus, the input/output device 2 easily accesses data on the controller 1 by communication in which the plain data name is set to be a key, and data can be referred to and updated. Since the data name being the character string can be transmitted between the input/output device and the controller, general-purpose interface or that used from a conventional case can be used.
