PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Ni-plated steel sheet for a battery can superior in corrosion resistance, sliding property, and contact resistance. SOLUTION: The Ni-plated steel sheet for a battery can has a Fe-Ni diffusion layer or a Fe-Ni diffusion layer, and a softened recrystallization Ni-plated layer formed thereon, on the surface equivalent to the battery can outer surface, and a Ni-plated layer containing luster or semi-luster formed on the above layer having surface roughness Ra of 0.2μm or more. It is desirable that the coating amount of the Ni-plated layer containing the luster or semi-luster is 0.5 g/m<SP>2</SP>or more, and the amount is equal to or less than the amount of the Ni in the bottom layer (the amount of the Ni of the Fe-Ni diffusion layer or that of the sum of the Fe-Ni diffusion layer and the recrystallization softened Ni-plated layer on top of it).
