<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-densifying agent for paper capable of easily producing a low density paper excellent in low density, opacity and whiteness, and a method for producing the low density paper. <P>SOLUTION: This low-densifying agent contains a compound expressed by general formula [1] [wherein, Y is a residue obtained by removing active hydrogens from a polyamine having (k+m+n) active hydrogens; A is an acyl: B is a polyether group of which terminal oxygen atom bonds with X<SP>1</SP>; X<SP>1</SP>is H, an alkyl, an alkenyl or an acyl; X<SP>2</SP>is H, an alkyl or an alkenyl; (k) is 1-50; (m) is 1-50; (n) is 0-50; and (k+m+n)=3-100].
