PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cerebral function-improving agent which is useful for improving the functions and metabolisms of brains and treating and preventing the neuroses of the brains, such as the maintenance and improvement of memorizing and learning abilities and the mitigation of stresses, and is originated from safe and inexpensive natural products. SOLUTION: This cerebral function-improving agent is characterized by containing a phenylpentane compound such as a phenylpentanol compound, for example, 1-phenyl-3-pentanol, and a phenylpentanone compound, for example, 1-phenyl-3-pentanone. The cerebral function-improving agent has an action on promoting the release of dopamine, serotonin, or the like, in brains. The cerebral function-improving agent containing the compound as the active ingredient has a cerebral function-improving function based on the promotion of the release of the dopamine and/or the serotonin, and can be used as an improving agent for preventing or treating cerebral function diseases caused by the release disorders of the dopamine and/or the serotonin.
