A control unit for couplings (7,9) and/or gear actuation in an automatic drive or switching with hydraulic fluid channels and an open/closed valve (1) comprises a positioning device (10,28) with the help of which the valve is brought to a position independently of the driver select lever in case of a failure in the control. An independent claim is also included for a process for avoiding a vehicle safety-critical condition as above.
