A sealing ring or a screw fitting (Fig. 3, not shown) is made of relatively hard non-elastomeric material and provided with at least one wedge-shaped surface 4 which forms a sealing joint line and at least one pressure-receiving surface 7 having a bearing zone greater than that of the zone of the sealing joint line. As shown, sealing and pressure-receiving surfaces 3, 6 are provided on the opposite side of the ring and may be arranged opposite or in staggered relationship with the surfaces 4, 7. The material may be a metal and when pressed against the surface to be sealed, the wedgeshaped sealing surfaces 3, 4 deform elastically. |
