The data converter has a data input (12) for connecting the data converter (1) with a central control device (2) for the lighting installation, a data output (13) for connecting the data converter with lamp operating devices (4.1-4.64) and an evaluation unit, for evaluating received data from the central control device and for control and monitoring of the operation of the lamp operating devices. An independent claim for a method for operation of a lighting installation is also included.
