A steam generator having a combustion gas passage the walls of which are lined with tubes 3 and in which there are banks of tubes 28, 29 separated by access spaces, includes an access shaft extending generally parallel with the tubelined walls 3 with openings at the level of each access space, said shaft having flaps 25 to prevent the flow of combustion gases through the shaft.
