There are many industrial applications in which it is desired to pick up an object without contacting the object and without damaging the object by any mechanical mean s such as suction devices, fingers, prongs, tweezers or the like. Although the use of such pic k- up devices are known, there are situations for which the presently known systems are not suitable which include those dealing with relatively small parts or having to operate in relatively small spaces. The use of the Bernoulli principle in lifting and positioning components, particular ly components having a flat surface, it well known. The present invention relates to a device for picking up objects by utilizing a flow of gas, such as air, permitting self-adjustment of the heig ht position of the device with respect to the object and permitting vertical movement of the device wi th the object attracted thereto.
