A liquid crystal display and a method for driving the same are provided to transit liquid crystal in a spray orientation state into a bend orientation state surely. A liquid crystal display comprises a plurality of pixel regions formed by arranging a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of source lines in a matrix on a substrate. A thin film transistor(15) having a gate electrode and a source electrode and a pixel electrode(4) connected to the thin film transistor are comprised in the pixel area. A common electrode(5) is installed on another substrate. A liquid crystal(3) is inserted between the two substrates. An electric field is applied to the liquid crystal through the pixel electrode by the thin film transistor. A maximum voltage of a power supply(20) for driving the liquid crystal is applied to the liquid crystal at the same time from all pixel electrodes connected to the thin film transistor and the common electrode. The driving of the liquid crystal begins after initializing the liquid crystal.
