A surface light illumination apparatus is provided to reduce the size of the surface light illumination apparatus by using a small light source and carry out collimation with high efficiency by collimating light emitted from the small light source using a reflecting plane. A surface light illumination apparatus includes at least one light guide module(100) arranged corresponding to the area of a to-be-illuminated object. The light guide module includes a collimator(120), a small light source(110), and a light guide plate. The collimator has an oval reflecting plane. The small light source is located at the first focus of the reflecting plane of the collimator. A light-receiving plane of the light guide plate is located at the second focus of the reflecting plane of the collimator.
