An industrial water effluent treatment reactor vessel (1) holds a defined volume of water in the absence of air. The vessel has an upright axis (1a) close to a central pipe (4) surrounded by a concentric heat exchanger (5) that warms surrounding water to generate a convection current (50, 51). The spiral tube heat exchanger (5) is located near but not in contact with the reactor base. The heat exchanger occupies between 25 and 50 per cent of the reactor cross-sectional area, and extends to between 10 and 40 per cent of the reactor vessel height. The heat exchanger has a cylindrical mantle (8) and a top-mounted gas deflection baffle. Also claimed is a commensurate anaerobic effluent water treatment process.
|
