Automatic start-up of molten metal continuous casting installation using camera to detect and computer to control metal levels in casting mould

The automatic start-up of a continuous casting installation comprises the following steps: (a) determining, by means of a camera (22) the evolution, as a function of time, of the level of the surface (4) of the molten metal (4) in the mould (14); (b) deducing an instantaneous value of the rate of molten metal flowing in the mould; (c) verifying that this instantaneous value falls within an admissible range; (d) modifying the rate if the value does not fall within the admissible range. An independent claim is also included for the assembly of equipment needed to put this method into service.
