PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a period of time required for recovering a coin handling device when a trouble occurs. SOLUTION: The coin handling device is equipped with a feeding part for receiving the coin supplied and feeding this, a decision route part having a decision part for deciding the fed coin to be truth and its denomination, and a selection route part having a selection part for selecting the decided coin on the denomination by denomination basis. When a failure occurs at an area for either the feeding part or the decision route part, operation for the area for upper stream including the area where the failure has occurred is suspended and the operation for the are for lower stream from the area where the failure has occurred is suspended after ongoing processing is completed, and the area where the failure has occurred is released, after each of the coins existing on the lower area is counted, and recovery measure is performed.
