PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce squeal in passing a paper sheet in a paper feeding device. SOLUTION: This paper feeding device comprises a paper feed roller carrying the paper sheet and a separation pad pressed against the paper feed roller. The paper sheet is passed through a clearance between the paper feed roller and the separation pad. The oscillation of the separation pad which may cause noises generated in passing the paper sheet is obtained by an oscillation frequency obtained by recording noises, and a design is made so that the natural oscillation frequencies of members forming the paper feeding device other than the separation pad including a support stand supporting the separation pad, a separation pad energizing spring, a paper cassette, a paper feed roller pivot shaft, a pivot shaft bearing member, and a paper feed device housing member are deviated from the measured oscillation frequency of the separation pad to prevent resonance from occurring between the separation pad and these members.
