<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of using the illumination light from a light source without waste. <P>SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a light source which emits light, a lens array which splits the light into a plurality of number of beam fluxes, and a superposition part which superposes the plurality of beam fluxes and lights up an electro-optical device as illumination light to form a lighting area. Further, there are provided a lens array movable part which moves the lens array and a controller which decides the format of an image signal, determines the size of the effective image area where the image light of the electro-optical device is projected according to the decision result, and controls the lens array movable part, to adjust the size of the lighting area so that the effective image area and lit area are of nearly the same size. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
