PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image generation apparatus for generating a composite image in which persons other than a required person are not included. SOLUTION: The image generation apparatus for generating a composite image by compositing an object image with a background image is provided with a background image storage part for storing a plurality of background images, an object image storage part for storing an object image, a picked-up image acquisition part for acquiring a picked-up image, an object image extraction part for extracting an object area image similar to the object image stored in the object image storage part from the picked-up image acquired by a picked-up image acquisition part, a background image selection part for selecting a background image similar to the picked-up image from a plurality of background images stored in the background image storage part, and an image composition part for compositing the object area image extracted by the object image extraction part with the background image selected by the background image selection part and generating a composite image.
