PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing an image defect due to a wrinkle of a belt body. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus, having a photoreceptor drum where a toner image is formed and a movable intermediate transfer belt for transferring the toner image on the photoreceptor drum to a transfer material, includes an auxiliary roller 86 which abuts against the extended intermediate belt 52 to remove its wrinkle, is characterized in that an area of the auxiliary roller 86 which is pressed along the belt width orthogonal to the moving direction of the intermediate transfer belt 52 is narrower than the width of the intermediate transfer belt 52 and the width-directional center part of the intermediate transfer belt 52 is pressed to project more outward than the width-directional end part.
