PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording and reproducing method which allows all of audio data recorded in a recording medium being a recording source, to be listened to when fast dubbing the recording medium. SOLUTION: In the data recording and reproducing method, audio data is recorded from one 117 of two recording mediums to another 108. When audio data recorded in the recording medium 117 being the recording source is recorded in the recording medium 108 being the recording destination, a certain amount of already recorded audio data is read out from the recording medium 108 being the recording destination and is recorded in a temporary recording medium 102 and is read out from the temporary recording medium 102 at a reading speed peculiar to the audio data and is reproduced as sounds, by utilizing a write waiting time for which the certain amount of audio data read out from the recording medium 117 being the recording source is subjected to compression processing.
