PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic fluid buffer capable of achieving the damping characteristic stronger than the soft characteristic in energization even in a case when the electric current carried to a coil is cut off in the failure of a controller and the like. SOLUTION: A fluid passage is provided with the coil 10 generating the magnetic force in accordance with the magnitude of the curried current, and first and second disc valves 11, 12 for opening the fluid passage PA when the coil 10 generates the magnetic force, and throttling the fluid passage PA when the coil 10 does not generate the magnetic force. Whereby the fluid passage PA is opened by the disc valves 11, 12 when the coil 10 generates the magnetic force, the viscosity of the magnetic fluid flowing in the fluid passage PA is changed in accordance with the electric current carried to the coil 10, and the damping characteristic can be adjusted between the soft characteristic and the hard characteristic. Further as the fluid passage PA is throttled by the disc valves 11, 12, the damping characteristic stronger than the soft characteristic can be achieved, when the coil 10 does not generate the magnetic force.
