PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film scanner for acquiring proper digital image data for outputting clear images, without being influenced by swelling during the running of a photographic film. SOLUTION: For the photographic film 14 sent out along a film carrier 32, measures the distance from a distance sensor 140 to the photographic film 14 is measured with a distance sensor 140, and outputs information indicating the distance to a microcomputer 128 via a light projection means 132 and a light-receiving means 130. The microcomputer 128 controls a current feed circuit 126 so as to prevent slippage of focus caused by the swelling part 15 at timing, when the swell part 15 measured with the distance sensor 140 reaches a read area 60A by three-line CCD scanner 60, on the basis of a running speed of the photographic film 14, and controls the vertical position of the three-line CCD scanner 60 by an electromagnet 118.
