<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell with excellent output characteristics enabling down-sizing, weight saving and cost reduction, without necessarily needing safe and costly platinum or platinum alloy-group catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: For a direct type fuel cell having a pair of an anode and a cathode fitted with an interposition of an electrolyte and directly supplying liquid fuel to the anode, a benzyl alcohol derivative and cyclodextrin expressed in formula (1) are combined and used as the liquid fuel.
