PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image detection method and an image detection device for surely detecting an image of a medium of which the surface is provided with a hologram or a diffraction grating. SOLUTION: The device has a light source illuminating an ID card C in which transparent diffraction gratings 1a, 1b are overlapped on a face image P and a camera disposed on a normal line L. The device detects the face image P not affected by diffraction light from the gratings 1a, 1b by photographing an acquired image 1 with illuminating from a direction along an X axial direction, photographing an acquired image 2 with illuminating from a direction along a Y axial direction and combining the two images 1, 2.
